MY STAY SO FAR IN COVENANT UNIVERSITY
MY STAY SO FAR IN COVENANT UNIVERSITY
The name is PHILIP JEHODDAN ONYIYECHUKWU. I am a proud citizen of my beautiful country Nigeria. I hail from Delta state. Fresher in Covenant University, college of CMSS and in mass communication department. As a female child of seventeen years old, I must say I have experience nothing about this beautiful world. Being the last born even gives it more reason to be stuck at home and be my parents hand bag, never allowed to make self decisions or do anything of my own will without parental consent. My primary school was KHMS, full for Kingdom Heritage Model school. My secondary school was chosen the same way and I attended CUSS, full for Covenant University Secondary School. And once again my University was chosen by my parents COVENANT UNIVERSITY. In short, I was stuck behind the walls of Canaan land. It is a lovely place to get stuck, don't get me wrong, but as my mother will say, youthful exuberant will not let you see the good they are doing. I never once regretted any of their decisions though and this one wasn't going to be different, at least I prayed so.
Covenant University has always been my dream school. I admired how their students acted and how well behaved and discipline they were, and even envied my secondary school seniors who successfully became students. Storyline changed when the university didn't have the course I wanted to take study wasn't available. And as I grew I wanted a freer school, but as the lord has it I was admitted, no matter how hard I tried to screw up my interview.
Being here has been a dream and I must say, it has turned into a beautiful one. My first day in school was very stressful. Signing into the hostel, doing biometrics, finding of my room and the struggle of carrying baggage all alone, up the unending flight of stairs since my room was located at the last floor . I was finally able to settle down and visited the caferia 1 to get food. The highlight of the day was saying goodbye to my parents and family memebers. It felt like I was abandoned and now this last born had to fend for herself, make decisions without my parents.
The first night here wasn't easy, being that I was saying goodbye to the pleasure of my king size bed to manage a way smaller bed space. I didn't get that much sleep but with time I got used to it. My new roommates were the nicest set of girls and I was glad. Getting along with them came naturally. They are very neat, reserved and with good moral and quite spiritual.
The next day was a Sunday and I had heard stories of how students were unable to graduate due to carry overs, due to missing chapel services. I didn't want to start my first year on a wrong footing so i hurried and even reached thirty minutes before time. The service was great and I enjoyed ever moment in God's presence.
Starting of medicals was a lot of stress, standing on long clustered lines was very annoying and tiring. I had to get a signature from, nursing unit, dental unit, optical unit, Xray unit, laboratory unit, and lastly medical unit. It took me four stress filled days to get it all done and complete my medical records. And the joy I felt was so much. I sadly misplaced the paper giving to me that was already stamped and all was left was to submit to the hall officials. I had to go back again and beg for signatures and the shame of being called careless was so annoying. I was so angry and disappointed in myself, but I was glad I did it and was finally free.
The whole week started and ended with orientation, as different lecturers and faculty head came to inform the freshers about the school rules and regulations and admonished us with good tips to keep our stay in the university joyful and problem free. At the end I was showed buildings
and taken to my college. Course registration followed soon after and I started classes the second week of school.
The first week of classes were the worst and the most stressful, due to the fact that interpretting the timetable was nearly impossible, and finding the venue for lectures were a lot worst. I roamed the college building for hours and asked all around for instructions from higher level students. The general courses were the worst, all clustered and finding free seats were nearly impossible.
The next week was a lot better but then assignments started and then i knew this was a warm welcome into war and the struggles of a university student. I was able to do all my assignments on time and i was able to use the library effectively.
Freshers night was without doubt my favourite moment in school. Dance performances, song presentations, comedy and fun games. I even won a bag and that made me so happy. The 21st Founder's day celebration was also very delightful.
In conclusion, My stay in Covenant university has been eventful. Good stories, bad stories, fun memories and meeting new people was a lot for me. But above all getting used to a change of environment was my personal hardest and i'm still trying to blend in and adapt well.
